 Annexure G – Hot Work Permit
  HOT WORK PERMIT
Applicable to operations that involve open flames or production of heat and/or sparks. This includes, but is not limited to: Brazing, Cutting, Grinding, Soldering, Thawing Pipe, Torch Applied Roofing, and Cad welding.
INFORMATION THAT MUST BE NOTED:
1. A hot work permit should be filled out each time BEFORE hot work is conducted and should be kept available at the job site for audit and verification purposes. Management must appoint a responsible person to closely supervise the use of all hot work on-site. Contractors should not be allowed to authorize their own hot work permits.
2. The responsible person verifies the applicable precautions have been taken prior to allowing the start of any hot work. The hot work permit is posted in a visible place within the work area. The fire watch maintains a constant vigil (even during employee breaks and meal times) to maintain the hot work area in a fire-safe condition.
3. Once the hot work is completed, the fire watch remains in the area for at least 30 minutes, and carefully inspects the work and the adjacent areas for smouldering or any fires. The inspection extends to the floors above and below the work and includes adjacent rooms
4. When the monitoring period has ended, the fire safety supervisor conducts a final inspection of the area. The permit is removed and must be retained as a record of the work.
THE BELOW LOCATION HAS BEEN EXAMINED PRIOR TO COMMENCEMENT OF HOT WORK
There are no combustibles materials within 10 metres of the hot work area. (i.e. liquids, vapours, gases, etc.)
All combustible materials have been either removed at least 10 metres away or is suitably protected from heat or sparks.
A designated person is available with a fire extinguisher or positioned close to both the hot work area as well as a fire hose reel for the entire period of the hot work.
The designated person must be aware of the nearest means of raising the fire alarm as well as have been made aware of the emergency procedures related thereto.
THIS PERMIT SHOULD BE PROMINENTLY DISPLAYED AT THE SPECIFIC HOT WORK AREA
