 Legal costs
   LEGAL COSTS
This section deals with legal costs the insured may incur if the person must defend themselves against legal action or if the insured takes legal action against someone else.
Cover is provided for the following
 Civil action
   A civil action by or against the insured. Civil actions are between private individuals.
A civil action is when one person institutes legal proceedings against another person claiming for damages or performance from that other person.
   Criminal charge
 Costs to defend a criminal action against the insured but excludes fines and bail. The proceeding by which a party charged with a public offence is accused and brought to trial and punishment is known as a criminal action.
A criminal action occurs when a person is brought to court by the State and is accused of breaking a law which is classified as a crime – for example, armed robbery
   Labour relations
  Legal action by or against the insured in a labour court.
   Family matters
   Actions against family matters such as divorce, custody or maintenance.
   Identity theft
  The theft, copying or illegal use of your identity document, or any confidential information relating to your identity.
  Key information for a Legal cost claim to be successful

○ Act timeously and give appropriate instruction to the legal adviser.

A waiting period applies:

the cause for the legal action must have happened after 90 days from when the cover started, and during the period of insurance.
Legal costs cover is not available if the insured is a juristic entity.
