The Adriatic Pearl organizers are very excited to be running the inaugural World Cup Same Sex Championships. You don't want to miss what promises to be an amazing night of fun and fabulous dancing.
The North American Same Sex Partner Dance Association has been working hard to promote couples dancing with same sex partners for years and advocating for many different styles of dance, from Ballroom, Tango, Latin, Argentine Tango, Swing, Country Western, and other styles. The NASSPDA is the host of all the dance competitions at every Gay Games in addition to their own events and dancing competitions at other various LGBTQ+ events throughout the world.
The first, official, Same Sex Dance competition was hosted at Gay Games III in Vancouver and has been a popular event at the Gay Games ever since. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, more organizations and events have started to form to promote various styles of couples dancing for same sex partners, including IAGLCWDC (International Association of Gay/Lesbian Country Western Dance Clubs). It also faced a few setbacks, such as the National Dance Council of America (NDCA) officially declaring a “couple” to consist of a man and woman after several events tried to open the door to same sex couples. Despite that however, Same Sex Dancing as a sport and event has continued to grow. Events include Eurogames, California DanceSport Championships as well as the formation of various Same Sex DanceSport organizations throughout the world.
The North American Same Sex Partner Dance Association in 2018 hosted their “April Follies” event that drew out hundreds of dancers for a fun weekend that included dance lessons for beginners, dinners, social events, and of course, competitive dancing!
