But my mother disagrees She doesn’t understand To you I guarantee
and she doesn’t try to either
Every time she said “she”
My stomach shriveled up
She said that “she” was crazy I just wanted to interrupt-
HIS NAME IS RAY
I wanted to fall into the sink
Drip away with the soap bubbles Maybe if I was made of cleaner stuff I could wash away all my troubles
But I know if I’m floundering in a pond He’s drowning in an ocean
I’ll find him downstairs
And then I’ll apologize
“I’m sorry she calls you ‘she’”
“I’m sorry I couldn’t meet her eyes”
For you
Even if it’s just a phase
I’ll still call you Ray
Just because you’re young Doesn’t mean you’re insane HIS NAME IS RAY
