As of November 3, 2023, State Bar membership totaled 5,883. Of this number, 4,095 were in-state members and 1,788 were out-of-state members. Of the same total, 4,203 were Active members, 1,003 were Inactive members, 254 had Judicial status, 369 were Senior members, 25 were Emeritus members and 29 were Active Military members.

“J” = JUDGE (includes full-time elected, appointed and retired judges eligible for temporary judicial assignment in the Montana judicial system)
“J- LM” = JUDGE - LAY MEMBER (Non-Attorney Courts of Limited Jurisdiction)
“AM” = ACTIVE MILITARY (Full-time active military service)
“S” = SENIOR (Inactive membership for 70 years or older and not engaged in the practice of law)
“E” = EMERITUS (Granted through application-may practice on a limited basis)
