t’s that time of year and holiday cheer is all around us. That means lots of decorations inside our homes and new temptations for our pets. Here are some tips and things to remember to keep them healthy and safe. Be sure that you secure your Christmas trees so they won’t topple over. Alternately, a smaller tree can be placed up on a tabletop or behind a pet gate/yard. Place fragile glass ornaments higher up on the tree away from your curious pets reach. Tree water can be hazardous to thirsty pets too. And skip the shiny tinsel this year if you have an extra playful pet in your home, it can cause serious abdominal obstructions if eaten. Secure all cords and battery packs out of reach; lit candles too. Festive plants and owers like amaryllis, mistletoe, balsam, pine, cedar, holly, and poinsettias can cause serious GI upset or far worse if ingested. Making a few modi cations ensures that the holidays will be a time full of wonder and merriment for everyone in your home.
