This is the story of how Buddy the dog and Austin, a U.S. Army veteran met. The tale of how their lives intersected and their journey to nd one another.
Buddy arrived at the Dumb Friends League Buddy Center in Castle Rock on May 6, 2018, but his journey started long before he walked through our shelter doors. Buddy, a 3-year-old Rhodesian ridgeback mix, was removed from an overwhelmed shelter in northern Texas and made the journey to Colorado with hopes of nding a new home.
From the moment he arrived at the Buddy Center, the large dog proved that he had a gentle and kind heart. He stayed close to people, rewarding back scratches with gentle kisses and seeking out cuddles. Not much was known about Buddy's history before he arrived at the Dumb Friends League. We could tell from his caring eyes that he was a good dog just waiting for the right person to walk through the doors at the Buddy Center and adopt him.
Buddy meets Austin thanks to collaboration
Austin learned about the Dumb Friends League Buddy Center through an organization called Pets for Patriots. Austin knew he was ready to add another canine companion to his life after losing his dog and contacted Pets for Patriots to assist him in the process. Pets for Patriots partners veterans, active military and animal welfare groups across the nation to help place harder to adopt pets into homes. The criteria are threefold and straightforward.
Sweet as her name, Honey the cat is looking for her new home. This affectionate tabby would prefer to be the center of attention as your only pet and would do best in a home with older children.
Squiggles has lived well with children and other cats and is ready to settle in with a new family today. Squiggles can be a bit shy at rst and would do best in a quiet home where he can reach his full potential.
Dusty is a handsome 6-year-old black smoke cat looking for his new home. He is affectionate, loves to be pet, enjoys cozy napping spots in sunny windows, and will reward affection with his adorable purr.
Sierra is a 1-year-old dog that is full of love. Her energetic personality would match perfectly with an active owner who is looking for a partner in adventure. She’ll make a great jogging and hiking companion.

Equine Center
