The Reality Real Estate
Did You Know...
By Kay Rowe, eXp Realty LLC and Embrace Life LLC Tips on How to Rise Above Conflict
Writingfrom60+yearsof relationshipexperience, most of which I played the role of “Peacemaker” (yes, I’ve been doing this since I was a child) I have found the following to be true...
More often than not, conflicts are caused by misunderstandings. Whether between nations, political parties, religions, employers and employees, spouses, family members, friends, neighbors, Business Owners/ Independent Contractors and Customers/Clients (and the list goes on), miscommunications and assumptions are the culprit. And more fuel gets added to the fire when those involved take it personally and/or assume there was malice and forethought.
There really aren’t that many truly “bad/evil” people in the world. However, there are a lot of people who jump to conclusions, judge before they have gathered and reviewed all the facts (me included). Honestly, extensive lessons in manners, communication and due diligence would do the entire world and everyone in it, a whole lot of good!
On that note, as a certified Mediator, specializing in Real Estate related dispute/conflict resolutions, one of my first actions (after educating the parties on the Mediation process and getting their individual sides of the story) I ask them to read this book... miguelruiz. com/the-four-agreements
In closing, in case you didn’t know, the dockets are full and judges are recommending ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolutions), particularly Mediation. In fact, nearly every contract in this country has a Mediation
Clause in it. But even with that, did you know that a lot of Real Estate clients will forfeit an earnest deposit because they think it’s too much trouble to mediate– when in fact it is a simple and inexpensive process!
So, my advice, besides simply being kind to one another, is to be pro-active and study and apply “The Four Agreements”. That’s certainly a lot more fun than being involved in conflict! And if you need help to resolve the issue at hand, seek Mediation.
