Mural Artwork New in Castle Rock:
The local art scene in Castle Rock is emerging into a vibrant, creative community of local artists. The Castle Rock Artist Cooperative (CRAC) was formed this past summer as the town’s newest nonpro t. This group of artists is currently partnering with The Downtown Development Authority to bring fun, colorful murals to our downtown Castle Rock walls. Nearly a year ago, The Downtown Alliance approached the Castle Rock Artist Cooperative with the notion to seek artists’ input on selecting local mural artists. A recent campaign for mural entries netted more than 20 submissions from artists around the Denver-Metro area. The Castle Rock Downtown Alliance has secured permission from four property owners in Downtown who own buildings that are adjacent to an alley, with the concept to have a mural or other 2D artwork placed on their wall. The Downtown Alliance has secured funding up to $3500 for this artwork. For starters, the CRAC selected four location options where murals would be located. A vote was taken, and the rst mural is being created at 340 Third Street, in the alley adjacent to SmarterChaos.com. The image which is being portrayed on the East facing wall at SmarterChaos.com will be a depiction of Philip S. Miller who brought many “ rsts” to the town of Castle Rock including electricity, library, and much of the infrastructure which we enjoy today. The mural will portray some of the early history of Castle Rock. By the time this article is published, this mural will be 100 percent complete
and available for public viewing. Dan Levinson, an artist and art teacher was selected to create this mural. He has de nitely brought his A-Game talent to Castle Rock by painting a large-scale mural of Philip S. Miller with a backdrop of the Rock. Dan was selected from nearly two dozen submissions for the Downtown Alliance’s mural project call for entries. Dan is a digital art
teacher at the STEM School, Highlands Ranch. His most recent mural features an image of a pro football great, Earl Harry “Dutch” Clark, in Clark’s hometown of Pueblo, Colorado. Once you view his work, you will immediately agree that he is very talented in his craft. For future mural or art projects, the Town of Castle Rock requires that if the artwork is 2-D, it must be hung on a masonry or concrete wall. The building owner and SmarterChaos CEO, Matt Frary, was quoted as saying “It is important to us as a global digital marketing agency to make sure that we invest in our community locally, and the best place for us to invest and to provide a platform
