A Message from Douglas County Sheriff’s Office
Recently there has been an increase in suspects breaking car windows to steal valuables from cars parked at horse parks, dog parks, and open space trails throughout Douglas County.
Suspects wait for someone to exit their car and then break the window to steal valuables. They tend to target females due to purses being left in vehicles but they will not pass up computer bags, wallets, electronics, or other valuables. In many
of the cases, the victim’s credit cards were used within minutes at local big box stores.
The Sheriff’s Office is working on the issue, but the best method to thwart these crimes is prevention. Leave your valuables at home or take them with you when you leave your car,
whether in a purse, backpack, or fanny pack
You’re asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 303-660-7500 if you observe subjects sitting
in their vehicles at parks, appearing to be watching others.
