It’s All About MUSIC
And the most often discussed topic at a Venue during Live Music other than the act is?.......
VOLUME......
99.9% of the time you’re likely to hear someone remark:
“It’s tooooo loud. Can’t you turn it down?”
Let’s see now, yep, that would leave .1%. That’s about right. Once every never someone may say:
“Could you please turn up the volume?”
Believe it or not, I’ve actually been asked to do that. I think the last time was in July of last year.
The most dif cult thing to control in most venues in town is volume.
With the majority of the places presenting indoor live music being breweries or eateries with a bar, it’s the band that controls the volume. The more their adrenaline cycle accelerates the more their volume tends to increase. All the proprietor can do is ask the band to turn down (sometimes at the threat of being denied bar service or worse).
A few venues have added a house sound system, which allows them to control the overall mixed sound and that helps a lot. But even then the ‘stage volume’ of the players can still get out of hand. It’s a dif cult thing to handle. Showtime is probably not the best time for a serious or intimate conversation. Everyone wants the experience to be positive and their patrons happy. That’s what live music is about.

Okay, Let’s Take a Look at VOLUME
Prolonged exposure to extremely loud volume levels can have an effect on your hearing. Try to avoid standing or sitting directly in front of speaker cabinets for any extended length of time.
We always try to keep an eye on decibel levels especially when experience indicates the need to monitor those levels with an SPL meter (sound pressure level meter) or sound level meter.
If you bring your kids with you to an event with any kind of loud sound, keep them well away from the source. If that is not possible please consider using some form of hearing protection (ear plugs, audio earmuffs, and for babies something similar to ‘Lucid Audio Hearmuffs’ (a brand designed speci cally for babies)
