It’s heart-wrenching to hear so many accounts of pets being attacked here in Castle Rock. As humans spread into coyote habitats, the odds of encounters between dogs and coyotes skyrocket. These encounters can be deadly, especially for small dogs that make for easy prey.

Slash-mulch Castle Rock site opens for the season April 6
Did you know that removing tree limbs, shrubs and brush from your property is essential for wild re risk reduction? Good news – Douglas County provides two locations to dispose of this unwanted slash.
Douglas County’s slash-mulch site, at 1400 Caprice Drive in Castle Rock, opens April 6 and will remain open on Saturdays-only from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. through October 26. The perfect place to dispose of limbs, shrubs and brush, the site also gives residents the opportunity to go home with fresh mulch.
Douglas County’s other slash-mulch site, located at 7828 S. Colo. 67 (2.5 miles north of Deckers), is open on Sat- urdays from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. year-round.
Acceptable items at both sites include tree limbs, shrubs, brush with a maximum length of 6 ft. and maximum di- ameter of 12 inches. Loose pine needles are accepted but must be keep separate from other items. Please note all loads must be covered upon arrival to the slash mulch site.
Items that will not be accepted at either site include appliances, dirt, grass, household trash, lumber, railroad ties, roots, stumps and weeds.
During open season a County operated loader will be available to load free wood chips for homeowners to use as mulch. Material can be picked up anytime during the season the site is open to accept slash.
In the event of inclement weather, please call 303-663- 6274 to ensure that the site will be open as scheduled. For full information, click here.
