By Shannon Feerick-Hillenbrand 22
The Carrollton Debate team began the 2021 -2022 season
at camp in Rose Hall during the final weeks o f the summer. We got to work discussing, learning, writing, and debating new arguments to prepare for this year's topic: U.S. Water Policy. After a year o f online debating, we hoped for a return to in- person debate, f-lowever, traveling remained out o f question due to a surge in C O V ID cases, so in-person debate was not in the cards for the 2021 -2022 season. Nonetheless, we were determined to make the best o f a challenging situation.
With a year o f online debating under our belts, we were comfortable with the virtual landscape and entered that first Zoom waiting room with confidence, ready to debate the benefits ofthe Clean Water Act and the importance ofwetlands. We were proud to start the season off with many competitive successes, made possible by our extensive hours o f preparation and research.

The senior debaters are incredibly grateful for everything
the team has given us: from the unforgettable teambuilding moments we have experienced and the strong voices we have gained to the bonds of friendship we will forever cherish. As we pass the torch to the class of 2023, we are sad to leave such an amazing team ofyoung women and coaches, butwe cannot wait to see what the future holds for the only all-girls debate team in the country. We are certain that the Carrollton Debate Team will continue to make us proud!
