Politics dominated Carrollton on October 17, 1984, when Mary Collins, Vice Chairman of the Republican Party of Dade County, and State Senator Roberta Fox debated the most controver­
sial issues of the Presidential campaign. Moderated by Robert Kaufman, Professor of Politics and Law at the University of Miami, the â–º guest speakers defended the positions of their respective parties on equal rights amendment, prayer in public schools, defense, nuclear freeze, abortion, economics, and foreign policy. Students
and faculty, after a question period from the floor, voted in a mock election for the candidate of their choice as well as for the debated issues. It was
no surprise, on November 6, when the national election results duplicated those predicted at Carollton with a Republican landslide.
