Dear Carrollton Community,
It is with mixed emotions that we announce to you that Lourdes Wood has decided to retire as the Junior High School Head at the end of this school year. We are grateful to Mrs. Wood for the years of service to Carrollton that have contributed greatly to the school of excellence we are today and we are thrilled for the next phase of her journey, during which she will be able to spend more time with her family, and specifically her grandchildren.
Mrs. Wood has served Carrollton since 1984 as a Math Teacher, Math Discipline Coordinator, and nineteen years as Junior High School Head. Carrollton will be forever grateful to Mrs. Wood for the time, love, and dedication she poured into our community. Under her tenure, our math discipline experienced rigorous curricular changes in pedagogy and structure. Our Junior High School experienced growth both in number of students as well as in faculty and curricular development. The development of an active Student Council, a club structure through which students cultivate passions for singing, debate and robotics, and her constant support for our students on athletic teams have made a mark on our Carrollton graduates. The Junior High is a place where our students are known and loved, starting in Mrs. Wood’s office and emanating throughout the Duchesne Campus.
Please join us in thanking Mrs. Wood for all she has done to make Carrollton a school of Christ’s Heart in Miami. We will miss her daily presence in the Junior High and will pray for her and her family as she begins a new chapter.
With gratitude and blessings,
Heather Gillingham-Rivas ‘94 Head of School
