November is a special month for Sacred Heart schools. First, we express our gratitude to St. Rose Philippine Duchesne who brought Sacred Heart education to America by celebrating her feast day. Consistent with our Sacred Heart values, we took this time not only to give thanks for all our blessings, but to also share with those in need.
The Montessori and Primary schools participated in a Thanksgiving food collection to benefit the Gesu community in downtown Miami and the Montessori school also made blessing bags for the Sisters o f Charity. In addition to their donations, the Montessori and Primary communities came together to enjoy a socially-distant Thanksgiving meal under the Duchesne Oak.
In the Intermediate School, students donated to a Thanksgiving collection for families in Coconut Grove through Grove Outreach.
Although the usual Junior High Thanksgiving drive was not possible this year, students collected items for different local organizations. The Upper School and Junior High communities made gratitude cards to share the things for which they are most grateful.
As we have neared the end of the challenging year of 2020, it was especially important for us to remember and appreciate our blessings this Thanksgiving season, as there are many who are less fortunate than are we.
