 CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP
Saturday, January 18, 3:30 - 5:00 p.m.
Our creative writing workshop is for kids
from ages 7-18. If you enjoy writing and
want to have fun with others who enjoy
it too, you won’t want to miss this workshop. We will play some writing games to help get our creative ideas flowing, learn about common tropes and how we can apply them to our writing, and do some writing prompts together. Snacks will be provided.
SNOWFLAKE BALL
Friday, January 24, 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Teens, come to the Library’s annual
Snowflake Ball. Come with a date or
just bring your friends and join us for
food, music, dancing, and fun. There will be a prize awarded for best dressed so be sure to wear something nice if you want to compete. Chaperones are needed, please contact Josh Campeau, our Teen Services Librarian, by email at jcampeau@ tln.lib.mi.us or by phone at 248-630-3142.
VALENTINE’S DAY SHOWDOWN
Saturday, February 15, 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Middle and high school students, do you
know for certain who the best fictional
couple is? Well come ready to debate
that fact. We’ll provide chocolate, pop, and pizza, you provide the argument. Be ready to give reasons to back up why your couple is the best if you expect to win though.
BLACK HISTORY
ESSAY CONTEST
The Pontiac Public Library has partnered
with the Oakland County Democratic
Black Caucus and 4 Helping Other
People Enhance for a black history essay contest. Submissions are now open! Submissions are due by Saturday, February 22nd. Prizes and a ceremony will be given out on Saturday, February 29th at 2pm. Prizes will be given for two different age groups. Requirements- submit a 400-500-word essay (ages 7-12) or submit an 800-1,000-word essay (ages 13-17) on an important historical African American figure, of your choice, explaining how their story is heroic.
GREAT OREO TASTE OFF
Saturday, March 14, 3:00 - 4:00 p.m.
Have you ever wondered which Oreo’s
were the best? Have you ever tried Red
Velvet or Peanut Butter Oreo’s? Well
today middle and high school students are welcome to come taste test a variety of flavors and rank them. We’re going to determine which Oreo flavor is the best, for science!
NERF WAR
Saturday, March 28, 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.
Ages 11-17 are welcome to participate in
a Nerf War at the Pontiac Public Library.
Participants will be split into two groups
with the last team standing the victor. This Nerf War will have one player on each team who gets to be a medic, who can bring dead players back to life. The first 50 minutes of the program will be devoted to trying to build the best shelter you can to protect your medic with the materials provided. Protecting your medic will be key to winning this war.
PEEPS ON DISPLAY
Tuesday, April 14, 6 - 7:30 p.m.
Middle and high school students, come
show off your creativity and make a
diorama of Peeps based on your favorite
book, TV show, or movie. All materials will be provided by the Library. Afterwards we will put your creation on display and have a vote for the winning creation. Voting will wrap up on Tuesday, April 28th and the winner will be contacted to pick up their prize after all votes are counted.
POETRY SLAM CONTEST
Saturday, April 25, 3:00 - 4:30 p.m.
To celebrate National Poetry Month
the Library and Oakland University are
partnering together again for our annual
poetry slam contest at the Library. This event is open to all ages.
