Maribeth Sarnacki coached track at Cromwell for 30 years (1984-2014), girls cross country four years (1988- 92) and basketball cheerleading for 33 years (1981-pres- ent) and soccer cheerleading for seven (1995-2002).
Her squads won three state championships in basket- ball cheerleading (1991, 2004, 2008), and her track team had one state runner-up finish in 1991. She won the Class S State Cheer competition three times with two runner-up finishes and seven third places. She has coached 50 all- conference, 20 Class S All-State and 20 All-America cheer- leaders. She had seven boys earn CHSCA All-State honors in Class S outdoor track.
She was named NHSACA Coach of the Year for Spe- cial Sports – Cheer in 2011 and was a National finalist for COTY Special Sports – Cheer in 2008. She was CHSCA Coach of the Year – Cheer in 2004 and NFSHSA Cheer COTY in 2001.
Robert Trifone was football head coach for 18 years (1987-2004) at Brien McMahon-Norwalk and nine years at Darien (2006-present), with a total career record of 207- 81-2. He has won two state championships: Class M 1994 with McMahon and Class LL, 2015 with Darien. He has
three Class L state finalist finishes (2008, 2013, 2014) at Darien.
He has won a combined five FCIAC titles and seven FCIAC Division titles. He was inducted into the FCIAC Hall of Fame in 2014 and was named MSG Varsity Coach of the Year Semper Fi Marine Corp in 2014, Walter Camp Foundation COTY in 2015, CHSCA COTY, 2004, and FCIAC COTY four times.
Sandi Piantek started the girls volleyball program at Ma- loney High and coached for 12 years (1968-79). Her ca- reer record is 220-9, including a 56-game winning streak. She won her first state title in 1971 and went on to win a total of seven, including two in one school calendar year (1974), when the sport switched seasons.
She was named CHSCA Coach of the Year in 1974 and was inducted into the Connecticut Scholastic and Col- legiate Women’s Hall of Fame in 1998. She was a physical education teacher at Maloney for 41 years and department chairperson for 15.
She is honored with a banner in the school’s new Ness- ing Gymnasium and is a charter member of the Maloney Hall of Fame, inducted in 2004.
