Calling All Wallingford Women
Artists
by Sally Tremaine
Women artists are invited to sub- mit their artwork for an exhibition by current and past Wallingford women artists. The exhibit -- Arts and Tastes of Wallingford -- is part of the town’s 350th anniversary celebration next summer. Tuesday, June 23, 2020 has been des- ignated Women’s Day, and the art show is one of several events planned by Wallingford Community Women. Other Women’s Day activities will include an afternoon tea at Wallingford’s Victo- rian Inn, and a discussion of the role of women in US history in collaboration with the Public Library.
In addition to creations by living artists, the exhibit will include a number of pieces by women from Wallingford’s past, loaned for the event by the His- torical Society and private donors. All works of art will be displayed in Choate’s Dining Hall, where attendees can sam- ple wine, beer and cider from local busi- nesses. Tickets to Arts and Tastes of Wallingford will go on sale next Spring.
Information and applications for the exhibit are available now on the homepage of the Wallingford 350 web- site: www.wallingford350.org or by con- tacting the event organizers at walling- fordartsandspirits@gmail.com. Women artists must live in town to be eligible. Any works of art may be submitted for consideration, including painting, draw- ing, sculpture, pottery, textiles, etc.
The Wallingford Community Wom- en organization knows there are many women in town who are involved in the arts. This is a great opportunity to show off their work at a fun event celebrating Wallingford’s 350th birthday,
