SPECIAL PROJECTS
FLEXIBLE, FAST AND SOLUTION ORIENTATED
Remote Learning Packs |
Making Learning Accessible
The Song Room worked with many students from low socio-economic backgrounds in regional and remote areas who were simply unable to access learning online during school lockdowns. Take home lessons were in demand from teachers and access to materials became key to ensure that these students had the same learning opportunities as others. When the pandemic hit, our team quickly reworked many ARTS:LIVE activities so they were printable and shareable as take home activities.
This agile response lead to an ambitious project made possible by The Ian Potter Foundation who allowed us to divert existing funding to develop the Remote Learning Packs on ARTS:LIVE for generalist primary school teachers.
In just weeks, The Song Room team of Teaching Artists and curriculum experts produced:
• 120 bespoke remote learning packs including printable worksheets that were Curriculum aligned to the Victorian State Government’s Learning From Home framework with links to literacy, numeracy, play-based learning
• Changes to the website structure to increase accessibility for parents
• Flexible and free resources for teachers to share in learning-from-
home kits, or for use within the classroom.
Many schools adopted the playlist of activities across all year levels, giving thousands of students access to new learning material during the stressful terms one and two.

Best Practice Lesson Support
To support learning continuity in primary schools in Victoria during term two, The Song Room produced a range of offline and online music experiences for the Victorian Government’s Learning from Home page on their education platform, FUSE. The resources provided opportunities for both teachers and students right across the state to take part in best practice music classes during and after lock down.
The project included:
• 16 self-directed offline music activities that could be delivered and completed at home
• A series of 8 weekly at-home music lessons streamed live to pre-registered students and delivered online by a Song Room Teaching Artist
• An additional 8 Song Room lessons were then streamed live into the classroom over 10 days to help smooth the transition back into the classroom and to help reset classroom routines
• Teacher support documents aligned to each live-streamed lesson.
We are proud that this collaboration with the Victorian Department of Education and Training helped to support regional schools during the COVID-19 pandemic. The program gave teachers and students access to lessons that they would otherwise be excluded from due to geographic isolation.
