STRENGTHENING LEARNING COMMUNITIES
Advocacy and influence
The Song Room’s CEO and leadership team regularly participate in symposiums on the future of education, the not-for-profit sector, and philanthropic leadership.
Australian Curriculum and Reporting
Authority (ACARA)
The Song Room continued to contribute to the Australian Curriculum Review in 2021 to support ACARA to refine, realign and declutter areas of
the curriculum. The Song Room staff members participated in a series of meetings and workshops to define a world-class Australian Curriculum in Music.
The public consultation process provided a unique opportunity for The Song Room to validate the importance of the Arts as a key learning area.
We recognised the importance of an inclusive review process that was representative of all school contexts and First Nations perspectives, and we encouraged schools and teachers to participate in the consultation process held from April to July.
We facilitated focus groups with Teaching Artists and submitted 10 papers in preparation for endorsement by Education Ministers of the new curriculum. Our response included feedback on all dimensions of the curriculum including The Arts, General Capabilities, and Cross-curriculum Priorities.
The Department for Education
of South Australia
Lead Teaching Artist, Scott Maxwell, delivered a professional learning webinar Music Education: Exploring and Demystifying Rhythm, hosted by the South Australian Government as part of their Music Education Series in July. Over 50 teachers from across the state participated in the session. This work reflects our strong partnership with South Australian Government and the value placed on The Song Room as leaders in music education. The Song Room continues to fulfil a critical role in the department’s Music Education Strategy though the TLC program in Mt Gambier.
Learning Creates Australia
Learning Creates Australia is an online engagement series founded by The Foundation for Young Australians, the Paul Ramsay Foundation and
PwC Australia in 2020. It was established to help develop a learning system that works for all young people - especially those experiencing disadvantage. Elise Hopkins participated in the series to connect, contribute and learn from the wide range of people from across states and sectors.
