DEFENCE IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA
THE DEFENCE sector in WA comprises approximately 4,300 full-time Defence personnel and 1,700 reservists, supported by approximately 3,000 first-tier prime contractor industry people. Defence directly spends around A$800 million per annum
in WA on goods and services provided by WA companies. A significant feature of the defence industry sector in WA involves the through-life support, repair and upgrade of the Collins Class submarines and AnzacFrigates, home-ported at Fleet Base West. WA industry also has a substantial shipbuilding industry that has been active in naval shipbuilding projects, for both civil and defence markets.

DEFENCE IN THE ACT
THE ACT Government values the significant contribution the defence industry already makes to the Canberra region. A strong defence industry in the Canberra region has many benefits with significant positive impact to other parts of the economy and our broader community.
KPMG estimates the current total economic contribution of the defence industry to the ACT economy and surrounding region is $4.3 billion in GSP (gross state product) and contributes to 25,300 jobs in defence and other sectors.
