NEWS
IN BRIEF
ALL NEW COROLLA
An all-new version of Australia’s best selling passenger car hit the showrooms last month.
The all-new Corolla hatch sits on the Toyota New Global Architecture platform which gives it a lower centre of gravity, 60 per cent more rigid body and improved weight balance.
Toyota anticipates a five-star ANCAP safety rating. A pre-collision safety system incorporates pedestrian detection, cyclist detection during the day, autonomous emergency braking and emergency brake assist.
Active cruise control and lane departure alert with steering assist and sway warning are also standard.
Corolla’s windscreen-mounted camera recognises speed-limit signs – a first for a Toyota model in Australia.
Other standard safety features include automatic high beam, reversing camera, hill-start assist, seven airbags and two rear ISOFIX child safety seat anchor points. SX and ZR also have blind-spot monitor.
CAR CRAFT HELPS FARMERS
The Car Craft Group has been raising thousands of dollars for Aussie farmers from within its network of 108 accident repair centres around the country.
For each Car Craft repairer who donates to rural aid, Car Craft head office will tip in another $100.

SUPPORTING DROUGHT RELIEF
THE MOTOR TRADERS’ Association of NSW (MTA NSW) together with the Australian Heavy Vehicle Repairers Association (AHVRA) have committed to donating a total of $15,000 to the Buy a Bale campaign, in support of local farming communities who are struggling with severe drought conditions.
“With over half of our members’ businesses located within regional and rural NSW, the ongoing drought conditions are also having an adverse effect on their own businesses within the affected communities,” MTA NSW CEO, Stavros Yallouridis said. “By supporting the farmers we are also indirectly helping
the local automotive businesses that are dependent on farming and the agricultural industry.”
AHVRA chairman, Richard Nathan said, “Our members, who specialise in accident repairs to trucks and trailers, wanted to contribute after learning of the devastating effect the drought was having, especially those businesses employing locals within the regional communities”.
The contributions will buy bales of hay which will be transported to affected farmers across the NSW regions of the Hunter, New England, Southern NSW and Western NSW.

NEW CODE WEBSITE
A NEW CODE of Conduct
website has been
launched which will be
more user-friendly. A key
change is that you have
to register and have a
password to log on. It
will then be easier to
track the progress and
results of any dispute
resolution. It will also be
quicker to lodge an
internal dispute
resolution (IDR) and the
imporoved site will help to
speed the process of each IDR. Last year MTAA announced its IDR builder which helps those wishing to resolve disputes all the information they need to understand if they have a case and to make it easy to lodge that dispute.
The Motor Trades Association of Australia (MTAA), State and Territory Members and the Australian Motor Body Repairers Association (AMBRA) have introducted a new website for motor body repairers nationwide “to further enhance transparent relations with the motor vehicle insurance industry”.
The new MVIRI website will provide enhancements and updates following extensive reviews to the Code of Conduct in 2016 and 2017. It will also streamline processes for motor vehicle repair businesses to become a signatory to the
MIVIRI Code, access updated information on the Code of Conduct, and expedite signatories’ ability to lodge a dispute, which will ensure mediation processes get underway in a timely manner.
MTAA says motor body repairers now have enhanced ability to lodge disputes using either the direct access facility built into the new website or, alternatively, using the IDR builder through their individual member associations which will then be lodged on the website on their behalf.
MTAA suggests motor body repair business send details of their dispute to their individual state and territory motor body repair divisional manager who will continue to assist in the submission process on your behalf. This will also provide MTAA with qualified dispute notification, tracking and reporting. Visit abrcode.com.au.
