Aussie Pumps growing footprint
ASSISTANT Minister for Defence Alex Hawke recently visited Australian Pump at their 2.5 acre Castle Hill factory com- plex. The company is also in the process of expanding their facilities. The Minister’s visit was generated by the company’s ef- forts to build Australian content for both
Naval Group’s Sea 1000 Submarines and BAE Systems Sea 5000 Future Frigate program.
The Minister held talks with the com- pany’s key executives including Chief En- gineer, John Hales and Operations Man- ager, Hamish Lorenz.

“The Minister’s visit was a great pleasure for us and gave us an opportunity to show how an innovative Australian company can produce world class products even in today’s competitive world,” Hales said.
The Minister was particularly inter- ested in the company’s export activities. Their export of Aussie Seamaster and Sea Skipper portable fire and salvage pumps is proving to be a major success with interna- tional navies.
“Already in use by the RAN, these great Aussie products are used by navies throughout the world. For example, Aus- sie Seamaster’s are used by the French, In- dian, Sri Lankan and Bangladesh navies,” Lorenz said.

The Anzac- class frigates (12V1163TB83/TB83E en- gine and 8V396TE54 generator set) also
benefit from this world class technology. Under a direct In-Service Support Con- tract with Capability Acquisition and Sus- tainment Group (CASG), Penske Power Systems maintains these systems ensuring maximum availability.
Additionally, MTU-designed diesel propulsion and power generation systems will feature in the Arafura-class offshore patrol vessels (16V1163M74R model), Hunter-class frigates (20V4000M53B generator set), and the Hobart-class de- stroyers (12V396TE54 generator set).
The Arafura-class offshore patrol vessels will feature the WP45L air compressors from Sauer Compressors, while the Hobart- class destroyers will include WP5000 com- pressors. Various Sauer products will be fit- ted to the two auxiliary oiler replenishment (AOR) vessels and Hunter-class frigates.
Penske Power Systems delivers whole- of-life maintenance and support services for Sauer Compressors products fitted in the Navy’s Canberra class LHDs, Hobart class DDGs, Anzac-class frigates, and Bay- class landing ship HMAS Choules.
In the land domain, Penske Power Sys- tems provides in-service support to the CASG under its direct In-Service Support Contract with CASG, for ASLAV, M113, and LCM-8. Penske Power Systems fur- ther supports Defence primes in the deliv- ery of major land programs such as Land 121 Phases 3B and 5B, and Land 400 Phase 2 Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle.
Moreover, Penske Power Systems is working with Rheinmetall to provide power packs for the Boxer, whilst also undertaking Land 121 3B integration
