Making the most of data in sustainment
LOGISTIC Engineering Services (LES) is currently providing advice and support to the maritime sector in reviewing and ana- lysing Logistic Support Analysis (LSA) data and the requirements developed in the acquisition phase, ensuring the plat- form capabilities are supportable through- life and meet their Operating and Sustain- ment Intent (OSI).
The LSA Record (LSAR) is generated in the acquisition phase and is the re- pository for all data generated during the conduct of LSA throughout the Capabil- ity Life Cycle (CLC). Identification of maintenance requirements and associated resources throughout the sustainment phase provide substantial benefits to through-life supportability.
The data generated during the first three phases of the CLC (Strategy and Con- cepts; Risk Mitigation and Requirements Set- ting, and Acquisition) create the baseline from which the effectiveness of the Materiel System (the capability and the support system) can be
measured against the stated requirements of the capability. Moreover, it provides the baseline data to enable the through- life iterative optimisation of the support system needed to meet the operating re- quirements of the platforms.
LES is utilising its in-house developed proprietary software (eLES Pro) to anal- yse extant data to identify how it can in- terface with, and support current Navy Logistic Information Systems (NLIS). Thisinturnhasledtotheidentification ofanumberofnewdataelementdescrip- tions and tables that will be incorporated into DEF(AUST)5692 Issue 3 which will be released later this year.
In addition, LES is reviewing acquisi- tion program LSA analyses (FMECA/ RCM), spares analysis, data mapping, and conducting validation of LSAR data, both quantitative and qualitative. This will in-
