CURRENT DEFENCE CONTRACTS
Birdon is a diversified engineering
and services business providing innovative solutions to the military and marine industries with operations across Australia, US and Europe. Established in 1977, Birdon is a proud and successful family-owned business dedicated to leadership within the Marine, Engineering, Dredging and Disposals industries.
Current Defence contracts (or completed during 2018):
• Bridge Erection Propulsion Boat
(BEPB): Life of Type Extension for the Australian Defence Force. Birdon designed and built the vessels
in 2005 and is now upgrading
and improving the engines and propulsion system. Each vessel will be outfitted with twin NAMJet T381, allowing the vessels to reach a top speed of 22kts.
• Disposal, scrapping and recycling of the Ex-HMAS Sydney.
• Disposal of Pacific Class Patrol Boats – Birdon is disposing of 21 decommissioned Navy vessels at its Port Macquarie shipyard.
• Army Utility Workboats (AUW): Modifications – Birdon built 91 AUWs in 2005 and has provided ongoing support, and modifications to various vessels when required including modifications during 2018.
• Ongoing support for Birdon-built vessels: BEPBs, Regional Patrol Craft (RPC), AUWs.
• Disposals work at the Royal Australian Navy base, HMAS Watson, in Watsons Bay.
AREAS OF INTEREST
• Design and construction of Defence vessels and equipment.
• Maintenance and repair work on Defence vessels up to 1,000 tonne.
• Developing innovative solutions and secure disposal for DMO disposal agencies including Navy, Army and Air Force, including assets subject to ITARs.

CURRENT DEFENCE CONTRACTS
Craig International Ballistics (CIB) was awarded the Land 125-3B Protection Elements contract in 2014, and completed the final tranche delivery early 2018.
CIB delivered to the ADF through this period – lightweight body armour for 21,000 soldiers and continues to supply product and provide technical support through the standing offer agreement. Over 350,000 products were supplied between 2015 and 2018.
AREAS OF INTEREST
CIB are responding to opportunities with several defence primes currently for composite ballistic protection and transparent armour products.
