Technical guide to HVACR compressor oil and lubrication
COMPRESSOR MANUFACTURER, UNICLA, has released a new guide in a bid to provide technical excellence and first class product support.
The Oil and Compressor Lubrication booklet is a comprehensive guide designed to help technicians, engineers and small system design- ers to solve all the ‘out of oil’ and ‘wrong oil’ scenarios that cause most of their headaches.
Unicla director of global marketing and technical support, Mark Mitch- ell, said the booklet is the result of three years of research and testing.
"This document contains very high-level technical expertise from the Unicla team but is also written in such a way to support technicians and smaller system designers who generally do not have access to this type of information,” he said.
"It is part of Unicla's expanding role in the marketplace as a provider of technical excellence and first class product support to engineers and tech- nicians at all levels."
Unicla has also expanded the Suction Line Bulletin that was published in December last year to create an- other comprehensive booklet titled the Importance of Suction Lines – analysis and connection to compressors.
This document now has added content to complement the Oil and Compressor Lubrication booklet and includes a useful new diagnosis/analysis flow chart. It can also be downloaded from the Unicla International web site.

All-in-one fault detection device
POWER MANAGEMENT COMPANY Eaton has released AFDD+, an arc fault detection device which provides critical all-in-one protec- tion against electrical fires in buildings.
With built-in arc fault detection, earth leakage current protection (RCD), short circuit and overcurrent protection (MCB) technology in one compact device, the AFDD+ can be easily installed on switchboards for new-builds or retrofitted in residential applications.
The company's ANZ general manager of power distribution, Dan Ag- new, said electricians, builders and owners need to future proof electri- cal installations, especially following the release of the new AS/NZS 3000 electrical installations standard which recommends the use of arc fault detection devices.
“Without detection, arc faults can cause a build up of carbon which can easily ignite and potentially result in an extremely costly or deadly fire,” Agnew said.
“Standard switchboards with RCD and MCB circuit protection are unable to detect electrical arc faults that are the root cause of most fires – so by adding an extra layer of protection with Eaton AFDD+, arc faults can be detected early, immediately isolating the damaged cable and effectively eliminating the ignition point.” The Eaton AFDD+ is the first IEC based solution in the world to combine all three protective layers in one device.
The AS/NZS 3000 electrical installations standard published guide- lines for use of arc fault detection devices in final subcircuits for loca- tions storing flammable materials, fire propagating structures, premises with sleeping accommodation or buildings with assets.
