PLANT DESIGN & FITOUT
also a 1000 square metre two-level office.
There is a 196 vehicle carpark, a staff gym, four meeting rooms, two lunchrooms, outdoor breakout spaces and a vertical garden. It is three times the size of Made’s former facility.
Vaughan’s development manager Chris Telley told F&DB that when Matt and Luke came to the builder, they didn’t have a design but knew they wanted to create a world class beverage facility to reflect the high quality of their products.
“From early design to procurement and construction there were constant changes. We had to have flexibility for new ideas or a better outcome or if they’d changed their mind because of equipment changes.
“The project pushed the envelope. As clients, they had a huge amount of involvement. Matt has an intimate knowledge of the design. He would know every screw and bolt in the building as much as the designers do.
“Credit to them and that’s why they’ve got such a successful business,” Telley says.
For Vaughan, the complexity of the project was on the inside. With the type of manufacturing underway, a lot of processing requirements had to be met – waste, storage tanks, temperature controls,
safety and hygiene.
Marget estimates Made could get around 10 times the output than at its previous facility. “We manufacture everything here except our coconut water which is manufactured at our coconut source overseas.
“Our business is built on our brand, but our manufacturing capability is quite unique in Australia so that attracts smaller players wanting to enter the market.
“[Contract manufacturing] isn’t a significant part of our business and not a core focus, but when we see the right opportunities we’ve now got the capacity to consider it.”
The facility’s roof was constructed so it could bear solar panels. Marget says the area is “as big as the Melbourne Cricket Ground”, so once solar panels are in place and operating, the impact will
be significant. ✷
