A year we will remember
THE year 2020 will be remembered. It will be remembered as the year a deadly pandemic swept the world and brought everything to a grind- ing halt. It will be remembered as the year a devastating economic downturn put millions out of work, crippled global trade, and sent mar- kets into a tailspin everywhere. But also, the year 2020 will be remem- bered for the resilience and resourcefulness of many, who stepped up to fill exploding demand for PPE, hand sanitiser, and other goods and services essential in the fight against the pernicious virus.
We have found ourselves in this strange, new reality and we are adapting as best we can.
In this edition of PKN Packaging News magazine, we report on how the packaging industry has been responding to these unprecedented
times in Packaging in the time of coronavirus on page 22. There is also much to interest those who have tired of read- ing about the virus. Read about how Chobani and PakPot collaborated to bring in-mould labelling technology to the com- pany’s new yoghurt cup on page 38. Also, we spoke to industry figure- head Mark Dingley of
Matthews about the future of our industry – read the Q&A on page 19. And, with the government pull- ing out all the stops to keep busi- nesses afloat, its $150,000 instant asset write-off package makes now a great time to install some new equip- ment. See page 26 for more infor- mation about the package, and some products that fit the bill.
I hope in my next column, in two months, we will be discussing the retreat of the coronavirus from our lives and businesses, and the start of a terrific economic turnaround. Until then, stay safe and stay well. ■
