Commercial Air Conditioning
Seasonal ratings coming soon
NEW LABELLING FOR air conditioners and higher standards of energy efficiency will be for- mally introduced later this year.
It follows agreement by the COAG Energy Council to move ahead with the Decision Regula- tion Impact Statement (RIS) prepared by the De- partment of Environment and Energy on behalf of the Equipment Energy Efficiency program.
Approximately 40 per cent of energy usage in Australian households goes toward cooling and heating.
It is believed changes to the regulations are needed because “the method of rating energy ef- ficiency of air conditioners has not kept pace with technology and market changes”.
The following recommendations were accept- ed by COAG Energy Ministers:
Adopt the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ra- tio (SEER) standard for rating air conditioner energy efficiency.
Remove the existing Energy Rating Label and replace it with the Zoned Energy Rating Label.
For double duct portable air conditioners, re- duce the Minimum Energy Performance Standard (MEPS) and apply the Zoned Energy Rating Label.
For single duct portable air conditioners, ap- ply MEPS to single duct portable air conditioners and apply the Zoned Energy Rating Label (tested to AS/NZS 3823.1.5).
Include MEPS for air conditioners >65 kW ca- pacity under the energy efficiency regulations currently specified in Australia under the Na- tional Construction Code (NCC)) and increase the MEPS levels for such air conditioners.
Align Australia and New Zealand MEPS in- cluding increasing New Zealand’s residential cooling MEPS to Australia’s levels.
Apply MEPS to single duct portable air con- ditioners.
Last month a draft of the legal instrument (the Determination) giving effect to the rule changes was made available for public comment.
It confirms the introduction of a more accu- rate Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio Standard (SEER) and Zoned Energy Rating Labels which will be mandatory from April 1, 2020.

Seeley International extends online support to customers
AUSTRALIA’S LARGEST AND most awarded air conditioning manufacturer , Seeley Interna- tional, has launched a new website which offers more convenient online access to its entire prod- uct range and brands, to better support custom- ers around the world.
Seeley International founder and executive chair, Frank Seeley, said the company recog- nised that a growing number of people prefer to research online before approaching a dealer for expert advice.
“This is why we have bolstered the amount of information about our entire range of products in one central website, so people can access it easier and ultimately enjoy a more informed pur- chase experience,” he said.
The new website is divided into three separate sections – corporate, residential and commercial – and will include all international regions and office locations.
“Whereas we have previously had as many as a
dozen stand-alone websites in place for our many different brands; Breezair, Braemar, Convair, Cli- mate Wizard, Aira, Coolerado and Coolair, this new best-practice centralised approach means that customers now only need to go to one loca- tion for everything they need,” Seeley said.
“Customers can go to www.seeleyinternation- al.com for everything they need. They can re- search our award-winning products, find their nearest Seeley International dealer, ask for a quote, book a service, register a warranty and more - all from the convenience of their smart- phone or lounge room at home.
“For our commercial customers, the website provides a single source library for technical documents and manuals as well as showcasing a range of successful case studies and applications from customer installations. We have also incor- porated product sizing calculators to help make selection easier and have included a gateway to the Seeley International spare parts online shop.”
Incorporating all Seeley International brands into one prominent website location underpins the company’s ongoing global expansion, which includes an updated marketing approach where endorsed brands now sit under the Seeley Inter- national umbrella brand.
