 OST BRILLIANCE ARISES FROM

ordinary people working together in extraordinary ways.” There’s a fair bit of brilliance out there in the repair- o-sphere from ‘ordinary people’. We toured some amazing, next level collision repair shops judging for this year’s 2020 Paint & Panel Bodyshop Awards. We’ve moved so far away from: “This is nice for a panel
shop” to “This is a panel shop???” Normally we would have spilled the beans on who the state winners are by now – but we’re keeping our powder dry and announcing all the winners at our lives- tream awards night and we’d love you all to join us (See page 21). It will be fantastic to have one night of this frankly biblical year that is all about celebrating the amazing progress the industry has made and com- ing together to cheer on the winners. A night where we can dress up, forget the C-
word and hang out with our teams.
We adapt, we endure, we are resilient – especially the Victorian repairers who have been having a ridiculously tough time. Perhaps we can all send up a prayer to God or the universe (look away insurers) that there will be a widespread but not too damaging hailstorm in Mel- bourne soon that will have all the re-
pairers there moaning about their huge workload – how good would that be?
It’s great to see a couple of repairers completing their AMBRA shop grading (p24). I strongly believe that having a na- tional standard will inevitably lead to better outcomes for the industry and would raise its profile and trust levels with both the public and work providers. The AMBRA shop grading scheme has faced many challenges in order to get off the ground, many of them caused -dare I say it (hell yes) by industry politics. It’s a simple tick exercise – although it’s a lot of ticks – to ensure that you are equipped and training to repair cars to a certain structural level and that you comply with basic environmental and health and safe- ty standards. So many repairers will al- ready have everything they need to be graded, so why aren’t more putting their hands up and gaining the certification? We're going to be chatting about this in an upcoming Paint & Panel podcast, so make sure you tune in.

We could tell you who has won the 2020 Paint & Panel Bodyshop Awards... but then we’d have to kill you. Make sure you tune into the awards livestream on Friday 13 November.
