Gas for extreme temperatures
ANGELANTONI TEST TECHNOLOGIES HAS DEVELOPED A NEW REFRIGERANT GAS FOR EXTREME TEMPERATURES, DOWN TO -70°C.
Geothermal
deal will
reduce
emissions
TURBODEN SPA., a group company of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) based in Lombardy, Italy, and Mitsubishi Power Ltd. have jointly received an order for 29-megawatt (MW) binary cycle power gen- eration equipment to be installed at the geo- thermal power plant in the Philippines.
Turboden will provide the complete power generation system, and Mitsubishi Power will provide support through its local re- sources. The order calls for project comple- tion and operation startup by the end of 2022.
The power generation system to be pro- vided by Turboden will add new binary cy- cle geothermal power equipment, whose key component is the company’s proprie- tary 29MW ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) system, to the existing 120MW flash type geothermal power plant owned and operat- ed by Bac-Man Geothermal Inc. (BGI), an EDC power subsidiary.
The new system will generate power making effective use of brine, which until now has merely been returned to a reinjec- tion well. By replacing power in the power grid now derived from fossil fuels, the new installation will enable reduction of CO2 emissions derived from steam power.
The new 29MW binary cycle power gen- eration configuration is expected to trim CO2 emissions by approximately 72,200 tonnes per year (equivalent to some 20,000 hectares of forest).
One of many Turboden installations around the world.
IT IS THE most ecological and innovative on the market, the result of years of research, and will significantly contribute to protecting the ecosys- tems and biodiversity of the planet.
It is the gas with the lowest global warming potential (GWP) on the world market, able to reach the extreme temperature of -70°C in total safety, with even better performances than the R23 gas currently in use.
The new R472A gas, thanks to its very low GWP value of only 353, will in fact emit 98 per cent less equivalent tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.
R472A has already obtained certification from ASHRAE (American Society of Heating,
Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers), the world's leading authority on regulations and certifications in the refrigeration sector.
In addition to being the most environmental- ly friendly gas on the market, R472A is non- flammable and non-toxic, and is easily replace- able in refrigeration systems that currently use R23, whose GWP is 14800.
While unknown as a refrigerant developer, Angelantoni Test Technologies is a leader in the manufacture of simulated environmental test chambers. It has three production plants in Italy and four foreign sales and service branches.
GEA appoints CEO for refrigeration division
KAI BECKER HAS
taken over as CEO of GEA’s Refrigeration Technologies Division from February 1, 2021.
GEA Group AG CEO, Stefan Klebert, said Kai Becker is an experienced
manager who has served in a variety of posi- tions at GEA for more than 15 years.

“Hisinternationalexperienceandtechnolog- ical expertise will be of great value for the con- tinued success of the Refrigeration Technolo- gies Division. Kai builds on a solid foundation, thanks to Thies Hachfeld,” he said.
Becker joined GEA in August 2004 and most recently headed the homogenization business unit within the Separation & Flow Technolo- gies Division. He has held GEA positions in Ger- many, China and the UK.
“Engineering for a better world” is the driving and energizing principle connecting GEA’s total workforce of approximately 18,500 employees.
