Solotel’s North Bondi Fish claims Jesse McTavish as new head chef
Jesse McTavish has joined Sydney’s North Bondi Fish reinvigorating the beachside venue with a new menu.
Having been in the foodservice sector for 23 years, McTavish has worked previously at the Beach Hotel in Byron Bay and Melbourne’s Top Paddock and The Kettle Black as co-owner.
“I’m really excited about moving to Sydney and joining the Solotel family at North Bondi Fish,” he says.
“Winter down here can be as beautiful as summer, and I can’t wait to showcase what the oceans bring with it in the cooler months.”
Deliveroo gives staff $18m of stock options but couriers miss out
Food delivery platform, Deliveroo, has revealed its plans to make all permanent employees, present and future, shareholders in the company. The share pot, worth over $18 million, will be divided amongst 2,000
staff across 12, international markets, however couriers will miss out as Deliveroo classifies them not as employees but as self-employed contractors.
Deliveroo has partnerships with over 4,500 restaurants and
3,800 couriers in 10 Australian cities. It employs 80 workers in the Melbourne and Sydney headquarters, and Brisbane and Perth offices, who each will become shareholders in the company and be given equity.
Australian restaurant chain rolls out ‘deaf-friendly’ policy for hearing-impaired diners
Family-owned, restaurant brand, RASHAYS Casual Dining, has announced that each of its 22 venues are becoming deaf-friendly after making it mandatory for all staff to learn basic Auslan (Australian sign language).
The goal is to see each venue reach deaf-friendly status by 2019, with each RASHAYS restaurant having at least one staff member who can sign rostered on for every shift.
Record $54,000 penalty imposed on Townsville cafe operators for compensation breach
The Federal Circuit Court has ordered the former operator of a Townsville cafe to pay a record penalty for failing to pay compensation to an employee for unfair dismissal.
Theo Sourlos, the former owner of Three Beans and a Chef, and his company Port Douglas Investments Pty Ltd were penalised a combined $54,000 in penalties for failing to comply with an unfair dismissal compensation order.
