LED there be light
An Australian light manufacturer and global leader in LED technology has developed a new HACCP-approved highbay range.
AQUALUMA LED Lighting has announced the launch of its first food and beverage industry-specific HACCP approved lighting range.
The Aqualuma Premium LED Highbay, part of its commercial range, is now available with a HACCP approved Food Safe enclosure for food storage and processing facilities.
The range is designed to replace traditional metal halide or induction lighting traditionally used in indoor and outdoor applications, and is ideally suited for use in factories, cold stores and warehouses, including hazardous areas, and is suitable for heights between 5-13m.
Aqualuma director Carl Amor says the Gold Coast company, which was founded in 2004 and is now well-known globally for its industry-leading marine lighting products, decided to build on its strengths in LED lighting and develop a commercial and industrial lighting range, which was introduced in 2013.
The company works exclusively with LEDs and has extensive experience designing and manufacturing world-class fixtures, which it sells in more than 52 countries.
According to Amor, Aqualuma’s engineers now include some of the world’s leading LED specialists and optical designers, and the company has sales and service centres in Europe, Asia, Oceania, UAE and the USA.
Rival light fixtures can’t compare with its products in terms of efficacy (the amount of light emitted for the power consumed) and reliability, according to Amor.
“The Highbay family, which is designed and manufactured in Australia, has been independently tested to be the most energy efficient product in its class in the world,” he says.
“We spent 18 months developing our Highbay range and our approach was to enter that market at the very top with lumen output, quality, reliability and warranty, as we were never going to be able to compete with Chinese commercial lighting products on price.
“Within two years we achieved that and we are still ranked in independent US testing as the top highbay light in the world in terms
of light output and lumens per watt.”
According to Amor, there are not that many HACCP approved lights available, and Aqualuma now has two – a flat ceiling light and a canopy light – both of which have received approval in recent months, at no small effort.
“Any approval in the lighting industry is a big undertaking. It’s arduous, time consuming and costly, but in our opinion, a prerequisite.”
The lights had to show hygienic features such as the ability to have no collection area for dust or insects, Amor says.
“We pick niche markets, we don’t have a massive range of lighting products, but those we do have are the top of the range. A testament to this is the significant number of blue ribbon companies we have as our valued customers.” ✷
