People in Print
News from the month’s movers and shakers, and the latest projects.
he original title for Print21 came from the report commissioned by the print employers’ association PIAA (now PVCA) on the evolving print industry in the 21st century.
Two decades into the new century, no-one could have predicted the impact of Covid slamming into the industry, but the core findings of that Print21 report hold true.
Print businesses that can adapt to changing environment are those that will not only survive but thrive. The call by Ben Eaton then, in the first feature of this issue, for printers to position themselves as advanced manufacturers, has a resonance with the Print21 report, and to these particular and strange times.
And there are a growing number of print businesses that have pivoted to make masks, visors, work from home desks, all from their existing equipment. Well done to all.
This issue of Print21 is packed with inspirational features,
all designed to enable print business owners and managers to see the pathway ahead more clearly, drawing on the experience of others and the ideas that fill the pages.
That includes the first profile on Mark Shergill at Focus Press, the first interview with Craig Heckenberg since he stepped into the CEO’s seat at Epson, and a look at the Kurz Australia story, as the company celebrates 50 years down under. We also have an assessment of the greening of digital, toner-based print systems, the latest news in digital print technology – in toner, liquid toner and inkjet.
We look at the latest developments in textile printing, which offers printers a new revenue stream for less than five figures, and check out the new wide-format releases that would have been on show at Fespa, now postponed. The big one, drupa, is also postponed, and we assess the broader implications of the latest developments there.
With a special section on packaging opportunities, an in-depth look at two prime trade service providers, and all our regular expert contributors, the July-August issue of Print21 is an informative read, bringing you valuable knowledge to help your business in these unusual times.
