Starleaton launching
tool rental programme
Printers looking to enter new markets with their Zünd can now do so without having to buy a new tool for every new application.
Industry identity Dale Hawkins joined Starleaton in February, taking the role as senior manager for industrials, essentially heading the
EFI printer and the Zünd cutter portfolios.
He is also now running the
new Starleaton Zünd Tool Rental programme, which is just being launched, and which will enable tools for the Zünd to be rented. For print businesses, the rental programme means they can test the water with new applications, new jobs, new markets, but without the full upfront cost of a tool.
Hawkins says, “I am delighted to have the opportunity to join Starleaton. Everyone knows its reputation in the industry as a family-owned company concerned with the long-term well-being and growth of its customers.
“The portfolio that I am responsible for enables me to draw on my decades of experience, and go to market with what are the cream of the crop wide-format print and cut solutions with EFI and Zünd, which is a great position to be in.
“The new Zünd tool rental programme is an exciting development. It is part of Starleaton’s strategy to encourage its customers to see themselves as manufacturers of a broad range of products rather than just as printers.
“The Zünd cutter is best described as a Swiss army knife, it can be used for multiple applications, from core flute to cardboard to MDF to metal and a hundred other materials.
For Zünd users it means their potential market is far bigger than just sign and display. However, new applications often require a different

tool. The new Starleaton rental programme will enable Zünd users to go for work in new markets without having to pay the upfront cost of a new tool they may only use once.
“If the pitch into the new application is successful and the company wants to keep the tool, they can buy it at a discount, with a reduction based on a percentage of the rental they have paid. Essentially it cuts the cost and the risk of entering a new market.”
The rental programme is available for all tools for the Zünd cutters. Rental terms start at just one
month. Hawkins says, “For those companies looking at new markets, for companies whose main tool needs repair while they still have job on, and for companies working in R&D, the new Starleaton tool rental programme will be really appealing.” 21

Specialising in commercial office graphics, Eyetonic is adding a new member to its team – the EFI 16h hybrid LED UV printer, supplied by Starleaton.
Fraser McEwen, managing director of the business says, “As the volume of our work has increased, it is essential we offer our customers both print quality and speed to market service.”
The new hybrid EFI 16h prints both roll-to-roll and flatbed. “To date, it’s been our biggest single investment, so not a decision we took lightly,” McEwen says.
“We analysed the market, tested a variety of systems, and the EFI 16h proved to be a great fit for our business.
“We print primarily roll-to-roll, but definitely needed the flatbed option. Printing large volumes of glazing film products, it was also essential to have fast and reliable white ink printing capabilities.
“At the pointy end of large projects
and multi-level office fitouts, the ability to hit deadlines is paramount. The EFI 16h enables faster turn- around time, and is living up to the high standards we ask of it for our business.”
McEwen has had the business for 11 years, operating from Sydney’s northern beaches area, with eight full-time
staff. It had an existing relationship with EFI supplier, Starleaton, which already supplies Eyetonic with media. The company first saw the 16h at a Starleaton open house last year.
The EFI 16h prints onto flexible and rigid substrates up to 165cm wide and 5.08cm thick. It is a four colour plus white ink printer, with single-pass, multilayer printing for greater profit opportunity.
Resolution is up to 1200x1200dpi, producing what EFI says is near- photographic images, saturated colours, and smooth gradations with four-level, variable-drop greyscale print capability. Production quality printing runs at 29sqm per hour.
