requirements simpler with auto- matic adjustment functions, such as printer position, former roller adjust- ment, gas flow management and film roll centring which can be synchro- nised with each product recipe set- ting. All equipment can be brought into line with minimum downtime by calling up a particular pre-set from the system’s memory.
An intuitive, simple-to-manage remote control unit, similar to the oper- ation of a tablet or smartphone, will ensure ease of understanding for opera- tors to further speed up changes and avoid costly and unnecessary errors.
The benefits of such automated changeovers can be significant. For
example, Heat and Control’s latest iTPS system incorporating the new Inspira bagmaker, can move to a new pack format in less than five minutes compared with around ten to 15 min- utes for a system requiring more manual intervention. Such quick for- mat changeovers can significantly increase the amount of product throughput over an eight-hour shift.
An automated system also means one operator can handle more than one line and frees up personnel to carry out other tasks.
EFFECTIVE QUALITY CONTROL

vital to protecting and enhancing brand image and reputation. Snack packing systems therefore need to incorporate equipment such as throat metal detectors, seal testers and checkweighers to maintain pack quality.
For optimum levels of product safety and brand protection, Ishida offers a wide range of X-ray inspec- tion systems. Additionally, the avail- ability of gas flow management is essential as this helps maintain product quality, ensure consistency in pack thickness and enables the correct number of packs to be placed into an outer case.
THE RIGHT PARTNER
A snacks packing line is a signifi- cant investment and the key to suc- cess is choosing a supplier who will work with you to agreed achievable objectives, that can be met within the required timescales. The right partner can create a line that meets performance, quality, and efficiency targets from the outset. Importantly, the total cost of ownership, rather than the individual cost of single pieces of equipment should be considered.
By the use of a single source sup- plier such as Heat and Control, man- ufacturers can take advantage of ‘end-to-end’ processing and packing solutions that can assist them to achieve maximum throughput and efficiency in their line. ■
