   GEA sells Bock
AS PART OF its continued focus on strategic core markets – the food, beverages and phar- maceutical industries – Düsseldorf-based technology group GEA is selling the compres- sor manufacturer Bock, which is part of its Refrigeration Technologies division.
Bock has been sold to NORD Holding and both parties have agreed not to disclose the financial details of the transaction.
The transaction remains subject to regula- tory clearance. Closing of the transaction is expected in early 2021.
Stefan Klebert, CEO of GEA Group Ak- tiengesellschaft, said NORD Holding is a good fit for Bock.
“It is our firm conviction that NORD Hold- ing will develop Bock’s business potential as a producer of commercial compressors mainly for use in stationary and transport-related cooling applications in the best possible way,” he said.
“In GEA’s Refrigeration Technologies divi- sion, we will concentrate in the future on our industrial compressors business. Our portfo- lio here includes customized solutions for the optimum use of waste heat, enabling our customers to operate their production facili- ties ever more sustainably or even become carbon neutral.”
Bock has a strong market position, is excel- lently positioned with its products and is commercially successful.
Since becoming part of the GEA Group, the business has developed positively. Bock is a leading manufacturer of open and semi-hermetic piston compressors in the lower and medium refrigeration capac- ity range. The company employs some 340 people worldwide. ✺

Showcase of quality cooling
BITZER HAS COMPLETED A REFRIGERATION SYSTEM WITH 10 WALK-IN COLD STORES AND FREEZER ROOMS DISTRIBUTED ACROSS 19 FLOORS AT HOTEL ALSIK IN SØNDERBORG, DENMARK.
CONSTRUCTION OF THE hotel which fea- tures restaurants and spa areas, was part of a larger project involving Sønderborg’s waterfront, with the hotel supporting the town’s vision of be- ing CO2-neutral by 2029.
Here the focus was firmly on sustainability and high quality. For this reason, Alsik is also acting as a showroom for the special Clean Tech expertise of the companies in the Sønderborg area. One of them is BITZER.
From the cellar to the attic space, Hotel Alsik used materials of the highest quality.
The refrigeration system, which is based in the cellar, provides cooling for 10 different cold stores
and freezer rooms across different locations.
The system includes ten BITZER ECOLINE semi-hermetic reciprocating compressors with water-cooled shell and tube condensers from the
BITZER K-3 series.
Together they ensure the correct tempera-
tures in the various kitchens, cold stores and freezer rooms of the hotel.
The solution also provides high performance refrigeration capacity and low energy costs.
The design of the compressors allows for the use of low-GWP refrigerants like R449A and R513A.
Components were supplied by wholesaler, H. Jes- sen Jürgensen A/S and fitted by the Climate A/S.
Hotel Alsik facility manager, Michael Kurth, has the daily job of supervising all the cold stores and freezer rooms, which also includes several wine cabinets in both the cellar and on floor 18. “The refrigeration system has worked well from day one, we haven’t experienced a single compli- cation,” Kurth said.
At the moment, heat is transferred from the closed refrigerating circuit to a free cooler. In the long term, Hotel Alsik is planning to exploit this heat via a heat pump for space heating.
  Corporate sustainability
EMRACO HAS RENEWED its commitment to the largest corporate sustainability initia- tive in the world The Statement for Renewed Global Cooperation.
Known as the Global Compact and promoted by the United Nations (UN), the statement has been signed by 1,294 CEOs from more than 1,000 companies in more than 100 countries.
The aim is to unite small and medium sized enterprises to promote sustainable develop- ment goals.
Embraco is part of Nidec Global Appliance which manufacturers a wide range of products for the HVACR industry.
Nidec Global Appliance CEO, Valter Taranzano, said this statement is one of the ways to reinforce the company’s role as a transformation agent in the private sector, encouraging ethical and sustainable practices throughout the supply chain.
The initiative was announced earlier last month at the opening of the UN Private Sector Forum.
