National ductwork distribution deal
DUCTUS HAS JOINED forces with Kingspan to be the new national distribution partner for KoolDuct.
Kingspan KoolDuct is an advanced and inno- vative pre–insulated rectangular HVAC duct- work system, which is installed in a single–fix.
Kingspan Insulation Australia managing di- rector, Scott Gibson, said the phenolic based KoolDuct insulation board, which is produced at the company’s Somerton facility in Victoria, is proving to be a real game changer for the HVAC market.
“We are excited to be able to make it more readily available to Australian consumers through our new partnership with Ductus,” Gib- son said.
Ductus is a leading supplier of high-end air conditioning ducting supplies, ventilation and duct system products.
The company specialises in supplying innova- tive products that meet the required strict build- ing standards of the medical, industrial and commercial industries, according to Ductus managing director, Jim Malek.
“Ductus has always focused on delivering proven and tried products into this sector of the market,” he said.

Malek said building owners and occupiers globally have become more environmentally fo- cused on their HVAC systems, demanding prod- ucts that are more sustainably manufactured, lighter, more airtight and ultimately deliver greater energy efficiency and comfort.
He said Kingspan KoolDuct System is the clear leader in the new generation of pre-insulat- ed ductwork. It offers the triple benefits of cut- ting energy, cutting carbon and cutting cost.
KoolDuct is the only premium perfor- mance pre–insulated ductwork in the world to be UL Listed as a Class 1 Air Duct under the UL 181 Standard for Safety when fabricat- ed to the UL specification.
It weighs up to 75 per cent less than ductwork constructed from conventional galvanised sheet steel and bulk insulation – this makes it ideal for
refurbishment projects, where existing building structures have insufficient load capacities for new services.

STANDARD UPDATE
An updated version of the Australian insulation standard 4859.1 has been introduced under the new National Construction Code (NCC).
The updated AS/NZS 4859.1:2018 requires a statistical assessment of at least 10 test results for each material assessed under the standard.
This statistical assessment determines the R-value and thermal conductivity for the products tested from the statistically adjusted mean values representing a 50 per cent fractile with 90 per cent confidence for a one-sided tolerance interval.
To ensure products are NCC 2019 compliant, Kingspan has released a handy guide which provides information on what goes into a Thermal Value Summary Report.
Bacteria free surfaces
MKT METAL MANUFACTURING is an au- thorized distributor of Agion Antimicrobial epoxy coated Duct.
These coatings contain silver ions that sup- press microbial growth on HVAC duct surfaces.
When microbes land on coated HVAC Duct- ing, there is an ionic exchange which suppresses growth of microbials and mould.
Based on independent lab data, Agion treated duct has been shown to be effective for years. This product has been verified and successfully tested on many bacteria including Campylobac- ter, Salmonella, E. Coli, Listeria, Staphylococcus and Legionella.
Agion based, Epoxy coated galvanized steel is appreciably less than the cost of stainless steel, with the added benefit of suppressing bacterial growth.
Many industries use stainless steel duct- ing because of corrosion resistance and stain prevention.
Agion based epoxy coated galvanized steel of- fers comparable corrosion and stain resist- ance, and is a good alternative, depending on the application. Epoxy coated ducting with antimicrobial elements is a great alter- native to stainless steel both economically and efficiently. ✺
