Wide Format
18Control your environment Make sure the working environment is consistent in terms of the temperature and humidity. Wide format printing does not need lab conditions, but it does need stability.
It is important to keep the atmospheric conditions consistent so that the dimensional stability of the media is not impacted, resulting in unwanted effects like cockling. Use a charcoal or Hepa filter to filter the air in the room.
Keep your print room dust free and make sure the media is acclimatised to the print room, so that is it not subject to sudden change in environmental conditions. PVC Foam boards, for instance, can pick up a lot of static during transport and handling, which makes printing difficult. Give the media time to settle.
19Use an installation company
Much wide format work requires quite skilful installations. You can attempt it yourself, but certainly in the early days it is much better to
use a specialist installation company. They have the skills, the equipment and the experience to deal with any situation. They may also give you advice on what would work in any given situation. Again, be transparent with the pricing to your client.
20Service your equipment
Just like a car, your printer needs maintenance and service. Do your weekly or daily maintenance. Make sure you keep your hardware maintained, as this hardware is what is making your business run. Without it, your business grinds to
a halt.
