Digital Technology
New on the market
Print21 casts its eye over the latest technology releases, which this month are mainly in the wide format sector.
EFI Reggiani Bolt
High-speed textile inkjet printer
EFI has unveiled its new Reggiani Bolt high-speed textile inkjet printer, capable of printing at 600 x 600 dpi at 90 metres per minute in a single pass.
Pitched at medium to high end applications, the machine is on the market for Australian and New Zealand printers now, says Andy Yarrow, director APAC at EFI. He says, “The first unit will be shipped in Q1. The printer is available in 180cm width, and 340cm width is in our product development roadmap.”
According to Yarrow, the Bolt is a testament to EFI’s commitment to addressing its customers’ needs. “Before kicking off the project, in March-April 2017 we completed interviews with customers across the world. Key takeaways from these
interviews have been the
need for performance, uptime
and productivity, printhead
reliability and printing quality,” he said.
Launched at an open house event at EFI Reggiani’s facility in Bergamo, Italy, which was attended by nearly 300 customers and journalists, the Bolt features a new recirculation printhead system with greyscale drop sizes between five and 30 picolitres, and can also print maximum- resolution images at 600 x 4800 dpi for high-end, high-quality applications.
Adele Genoni, vice president and general manager at EFI Reggiani, says the Bolt was born of years of innovation and expertise. “The innovative development of our new single-pass printer comes from Reggiani’s
speed of innovation in digital textile printing, its 70 years of history, and our proprietary knowledge of high-volume analogue rotary printing.
“The EFI Reggiani Bolt re-writes the rules of digital textile single-pass printing, delivering superior throughput and quality with a highly competitive return on investment for customers. We are excited to bring this technology to our customers and see their businesses succeed and grow,” says Genoni.
Additional features include enhanced maintenance features such as a contactless wiping system and assisted alignment system; enhanced colour gamut and image quality; and the option to integrate analogue printing stations.
Mutoh ValueJet VJ-1627MH
Entry level rigid and roll-to-roll wide-format printer
New from Mutoh is its latest ValueJet wide-format digital printer, the VJ-1627MH, which comes in both rigid and roll capabilities and is equipped with a specialised hot air knife media drying system.
Billed as an entry-level hybrid roll-to-roll/flatbed, the VJ-1627MH is a 1.6m system replacing the ValueJet VJ-1617H. It comes with two rigid tables as standard, and uses Mutoh’s own MP-31 resin-based inks that dry immediately.
Mutoh says it has brought the new ValueJet to market to meet the needs of roll-to-roll operations who want to move into flatbed, but do not as yet have the budget or the volume to do so. The new ValueJet will increase their applications without a major new investment.
Spicers Digitac
New media including indoor and outdoor floor applications
Spicers has launched its new Digitac range of films for sign and display, which it bills as “an evolution in grip”. They include materials for both indoor and outdoor use.
Digitac can be printed on UV, Latex, and eco- solvent roll-to-roll machines, and has a wide variety of applications, says Harry Pagoulatos, marketing and business development manager at Spicers. “Evolution is driven by the demands of the environment. Natural selection ensures that creatures develop the best attributes to thrive in their habitat,” he said. “Digitac from Spicers mimics this evolution, with a diverse range of sign and display solutions.”
