Yanmar creates cogeneration company
THE YANMAR GROUP has announced the creation of a new company, Yanmar Energy Sys- tems Europe, to provide clean and efficient Com- bined Heat and Power (CHP) Generation solu- tions to the HVAC industry.
The company’s CEO, Yosuke Tajima, said the demand for power continues to rise, along with a significant need to reduce CO2 emissions.
Tajima said CHP is recognised as highly effi- cient as it runs on clean natural gas to generate electricity and heat. They gain their high energy efficiency by capturing and using the excess heat that comes from the engine during elec- tricity generation, as the single fuel source pro- vides both heat and electricity.
The new company was launched after the Yanmar Group acquired a majority holding in RMB AG (RMB), a major German provider of in- dustry-leading CHP units.
The strategic goal with RMB is the joint devel- opment of cogeneration units with Yanmar en- gines. It also aims to continue its market leader- ship of the micro-CHP sector, combining the best of Japanese and German manufacturing.
RMB general manager, Jens Brake, who is an engineer by trade, designed his first CHP system in 2008 and helped bring RMB’s neoTower unit to market three years later.
In 2015, the first cogeneration units with Yan- mar engines were unveiled, available with an electrical capacity of 25 and 30kW.
Brake said CHP is the best solution for today’s energy needs. “From a business perspective, if you compare it to the other energy sources, the biggest driver is the cost savings for customers. Essentially, they are producing electrical power and heat with their own power plant – and doing it at a low cost,” he said.

Ingersoll Rand strategy elevates Trane brand
THE CLIMATE COMPANY will be named Trane Technologies elevating its Trane brand and maintaining a strategic focus on innova- tion, its Thermo King brand, and portfolio of sustainable solutions for buildings, homes and transportation.
In April 2019, Ingersoll Rand and Gardner Denver announced a definitive agreement whereby Ingersoll Rand would separate its industrial segment and combine it with Gardner Denver.
Upon completion of the transaction, the re- maining HVAC and transport refrigeration assets of the current Ingersoll Rand will be- come Trane Technologies.
The company name change is subject to shareholder approval and is expected to be ef- fective around the completion of its Reverse Morris Trust (RMT) transaction in early 2020.
Chair and CEO of the current Ingersoll Rand and future Trane Technologies, Michael W. Lamach, said the new company will have greater focus, more targeted investments and a simplified business model in a bid to in- crease speed and agility and deliver value for shareholders, customers and employees.
