T&G Global grows home
T&G Global has strengthened its home turf position with its acquisition of Freshmax NZ. Kim Berry writes.

AS 2019 drew to a close, T&G Global (formerly Turners and Growers) announced it had entered an agreement
to acquire the domestic
fresh produce division of Freshmax NZ for $30 million.
The acquisition represents the ongoing growth of one of the country’s largest fresh produce companies.
While the deal is signed and subject to a number of conditions, it also requires a review by the New Zealand Commerce Commission.
T&G Global CEO Gareth Edgecombe says it is a significant opportunity to expand and strengthen the company’s presence in New Zealand.
“[It will] deliver better
service to growers and customers, provide a platform for an enhanced supply chain and supply the highest quality fresh produce to customers year-round.
“[W]e believe it will be a welcome catalyst of change to drive more efficient and effective ways of working with New Zealand growers and retailers,” he says.
T&G Global MD New Zealand Produce Andrew Keaney said the deal brings together two strong teams and would allow operation improvements for the fresh produce industry.
Edgecombe said the deal was a signal to the industry that having a “vibrant home market” was important for a company that now has a global footprint.

T&G’s Orchard Rd Fruit brand won the Small Budget Marketing Award at the 2019 Australian Marketing Institute Awards for its brand awareness campaign. T&G global brand portfolio manager Cecilia Flores Paez told Food & Drink Business the plan had, “the ambitious goal of creating brand awareness across multiple channels on a limited budget”.
Using social media, in- programme brand integration, integrated magazine and real-time precision-targeted mobile digital T&G achieved outstanding sales growth. ✷
