Busy being opulent
FROM ONE INDUSTRY EVENT
TO THE NEXT IT ALMOST FEELS
LIKE AN ARBS YEAR.
Sandra Van Dijk – Editor
ITS BEEN A busy few weeks with plenty of good news announcements that could completely trans- form industry in coming years.
But before we get into all the details readers are invited to join us in a celebration to commemorate the 200th issue of CCN.
I am not the nostalgic type so I rarely remi- nisce but what a revelation it was to return to the very first edition of CCN which was published in April, 2002.
To mark the occasion we revisit some of the big- gest headlines of 17 years ago. Do you even recall what you were doing that year, way back in 2002?
We also talk to industry executives in a special edition roundtable and ask: What's next?
But back to more recent headlines and the in- credible turnaround we have witnessed in the lead up to this month's federal election.
I wouldn't dare describe an election as a celebra- tion but its been one good news announcement af- ter another for the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector.
Just a few weeks ago the future looked bleak on the tradie-front, particularly when it came to ad- dressing the current skills shortage. And let's be honest, funding for TAFE was non-existent com- pared to the extravagant announcements made in recent weeks from both sides of the political divide. For TAFE its like entering a new age of opulence.
Labor has made a billion dollar promise to sup- port more trade training including a complete TAFE makeover while the government is provid- ing a VET upgrade of its own which includes cash handouts to employers.
It's a remarkable policy shift after years of ne- glect. Regardless of who wins the election its clear that the lean times are over for the VET sector.
This translates into good news for the refrigera- tion and air conditioning industry which is in des- perate need of more skilled technicians.
It was in this climate of prosperity, billion dol- lar promises and 200th issue celebrations that CCN officially launched its 2019 HVACR Leader- ship Awards.
That's right the search is on for innovators, pio- neers and climate control champions. This is your opportunity to make a great industry, even greater. Nominations close July 31, 2019.
