Ball & Doggett – it does a lot more than sell paper
The country’s biggest printable materials supplier Ball & Doggett is involved in a host of industry initiatives aimed at supporting and promoting print and the people in it.
As a lifetime member of the Printing Industries Association of Australia – now the Print and Visual Communication Association – Ball & Doggett is committed to doing its part in ensuring a sustainable industry for all of us.
As part of its charter it engages in many aspects of the broad industry. It operates at the coalface, inspiring, educating and influencing companies and individuals about the value that print evokes for brands.
The education sector is a key avenue that it uses to promote
print communications. In the last
12 months, it has invested time
with students undertaking both undergraduate degrees and diplomas in graphic design. Those lectures
and workshops cover paper and print basics, how to quote print effectively, and where they belong in the industry on graduation. Packaging, offset printing, digital printing, sustainability, stationery, binding techniques, print embellishments and branding are just some of the topics that Ball & Doggett lays
before the students. TAFE colleges, universities, and design schools all benefit from the expert knowledge of the Ball & Doggett team.
In the digital world in which young people grow up, promoting the benefits of print communication is critical with emerging designers.

coffee cups. As part of this launch,
it brought together like-minded individuals and organisations.
These included Seljak Brand, which operates in a closed loop economy producing blankets made from recycled merino or lambswool at from Australia’s oldest Tasmania wool mill; Spooked Kooks, which manufactures surfboards using 100 per cent recycled plastic; and PonyUp for Good – a full service technology reuse and e-waste recycling provider with
a social twist. The social movement around alternatives will continue to grow, with Ball & Doggett doing its part for the print industry.
The National Print Awards,
the PICAs, Two Sides, Real Media Collective, and the Real Media Awards are all industry events
and initiatives that are supported financially by Ball & Doggett. Many of these are steeped in tradition, and the company knows it is important that we recognise and celebrate together as an industry.
Have you heard of Reflektor?
This is a new magazine that Ball & Doggett is supporting. The company says it is so refreshing to see investment in print communication, in a sector that has seen a shift from print to online in recent times.
Reflektor is an arts and culture magazine available free of charge and distributed through cafés, galleries and art centres in Sydney and Melbourne.

Getting into design schools and unis and spelling out the benefits of print and paper to young people benefits us all. Supporting awards, supporting
