The new building will feature testing facilities to boost core technologies.
Fujitsu General expands R&D facilities
FUJITSU GENERAL LIMITED IS EXPANDING RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT FACILITIES AT ITS HEAD OFFICE IN KAWASAKI, JAPAN.
THE AIM IS to strengthen development and inno- vation capabilities in commercial environments.
The new building will feature testing fa- cilities to boost core technologies including equipment that will be able to recreate real world usage for air conditioning systems
and installation environments such as multi storey buildings, to accelerate innovation and development of technology in the com- mercial space.
Workshop and training facilities will en- hance engineers’ technological skills and knowledge, while enabling discussions on new trends and emerging technologies. A number of workshops will be shared with external companies to encourage open innovation and collaboration with new technologies.
Fujitsu General Australia managing di- rector, Philip Perham, said the new R&D building further strengthens the company's theme at this year's ARBS 'breaking free
from perception' which demonstrated the business is a strong competitor in the com- mercial HVAC arena.
“Fujitsu General already has access to state of the art testing facilities and R&D centres in Japan, Thailand and China. The addition of a new building in Kawasaki will further en- hance our capabilities to produce air condi- tioning systems for commercial and residen- tial environments in Australia, as well as continue to develop engineers to be the best in the industry,” Perham said.
Construction of the new building has com- menced and will be fully operational by June 2019.

Independent seal of approval for fan data
THE INTERNATIONAL AIR Movement and Control Association (AMCA) has officially en- dorsed Ziehl-Abegg’s data on air performance and energy consumption used to test its energy saving EC fans.
At its headquarters in Germany, Ziehl-Abegg operates the world’s largest combined test chamber for fans. AMCA is an independent, non- profit organisation which monitors standards and certifications of ventilation technology sys- tems worldwide. Ziehl-Abegg CEO, Peter Fenkl, said the endorsement is a tribute to the com- pany's long-term commitment to the reliability and accuracy of its measurement data.
“Certification of the EC fans is a great coun- terpart to the long awarded certification of the company’s AC products. Both certifications at- test to Ziehl-Abegg’s position as a technological leader in aerodynamic and energy-saving fans.”
With a high level of vertical integration in manufacturing, the company produces fans made of steel, aluminium and plastic. The fans are powered by external rotor motors with inte- grated control electronics – the external rotor technology was developed by the founder of the company, Emil Ziehl. “When EC fans are in- stalled by our customers they must be able to have total confidence in the quoted measure- ment values,” Fenkl said.
“In many installation situations the individu- al measurement values for EC motor and venti- lator can no longer be measured as they be- come lost in the overall system. This is why we have been operating the world's largest com- bined measurement and test chamber for fans in Künzelsau since 2008.” State-of-the-art, high-precision measuring instruments, plus regular training for employees, combined with
regular inspections by external organisations such as AMCA or TÜV, are quite costly. But cut- ting corners isn’t an option.
Managing director of Ziehl-Abegg in the US, Mirco Herrmann, said certification also applies to North America. ✺
