Focus shifts to Asian economies
By 2050, three of the four biggest economies in the world will be Asian.
THE CSIRO HAS released a report warning that if Australia wants to be a participant rather than a casualty of the Asian century, it needs to engage with Asia’s huge and growing capability and invest in innovation.
By 2050, three of the four biggest economies in the world will be Asian. China and India are tipped to take first and second place with the United States pushed into third place and Indo- nesia fourth.
China is the second largest spender on R&D after the US, accounting for 21 per cent of the world’s total expenditure in this sector. But Chi- na is not an anomaly.
Elsewhere across the region, a picture is emerging of Asia as the new centre of gravity for innovation. The Asian tiger economies of the late 20th century are already way ahead of Austral- ia’s ranking of 23rd in the 2017 Global Innovation Index, with Singapore ranked 7, Korea 11, Japan 14 and Hong Kong 16.
Authors of the report Andy Hall and Jen Kelly, said Australia needs to foster more partnerships. “Researchers and companies need to collaborate more around the development, market testing and
commercialisation of technologies,” they said.
“To really take advantage of global and re- gional market opportunities ahead, our busi- nesses and R&D organisations need to be deep- ly connected to Asia’s emerging capacity for
innovation.” ✺
Smart technology improves part-load performance
DAIKIN HAS ANNOUNCED the release of its new VRV H and R Series.
Available from November 2018, VRV H is Dai- kin’s next generation VRV Heat Pump series whilst VRV R, refers to the new VRV Heat Recov- ery range.
Both VRV H and R are equipped with Daikin’s unique VRT Smart technology, whilst a new ‘K’ Type Compressor is applicable to some models on the VRV H series.
A step-up from its predecessor VRT or Vari- able Refrigerant Temperature controls, the technology behind Daikin’s VRT Smart deliv- ers improved part-load operations and better comfort for occupants. It incorporates varia- ble air volume control of the indoor fan coil in- tegrated with refrigerant temperature control
from the condenser to deliver a system which responds rapidly to indoor load changes.
Enhancing the capability of the range is the utilisation of the new ‘K’ Type Compressor on se- lected Heat Pump models. The compressor fea- tures a new state-of-the-art back-pressure con- trol mechanism that improves low load operation by up to 15% when compared to VRV IV.
The VRV H and R series are compatible with Daikin’s complete range of VRV indoor units for an enhanced choice for customers including their new range of Round Flow Cassettes and Single Flow Cassettes. The VRV H and R series are available in either Standard or High COP models with capacities from 16kW up to 168kW.
