WELCOME to PKN’s 60th anniversary edition. It is a tremendous honour to be in the editor’s seat of this venerable publication as we mark this special occasion. This is such an exciting issue of PKN, and I’m very proud to be on the team that made it. I trust you will enjoy reading it.
The packaging industry has seen some amazing developments over the past six decades. I highly recom- mend turning to page 44 and spend- ing some time revisiting some of the industry’s important milestones.
But now is definitely the most exciting time to be involved in the packaging industry. There is a pas- sion for sustainability running like

through the packaging world. It would be fair to say that once upon a time, the packaging industry was part of the problem. There is a passion for sustainability running like electricity through the packaging world.”
This was apparent at the AIP con- ference, where I heard industry leaders speaking excitedly about APCO’s 2025 Monitoring Program that sets benchmarked goals for sus- tainability from here to 2025, when the National Packaging Targets are set to be met. There seemed to be a consensus that such targets are nec- essary to create an environment where investment in sustainable innovation is possible. On page 22 our comprehensive coverage of the conference begins. Catch up on what you may have missed with our reports on some of the important keynote speeches, and also many exciting innovations showcased at the conference.
Here’s wishing you a safe and happy New Year. Let’s hope 2021 is
