Ingredients company scoops awards
DAIRY ingredients supplier Maxum Foods has two significant business awards to its name after posting exceptional revenue growth.
The company, which supplies and manufactures dairy ingredients such as milk powders, cheese and butter to the food, health and animal nutrition industries, was founded in 2003. Since then, it has grown from a $2.7 million to a $150 million company.
The company was named Business Services Growth Company of the Year at the Australian Growth Company Awards – which celebrate excellence in the mid-market – in November, and within weeks was also named one of Australia’s 50 fastest-growing SMEs in The Smart50 list published by SmartCompany,
which is based on companies’ average annual revenue growth over the past three years.
Ben Woodhouse and Dustin Boughton started the company after spotting a gap in the dairy supply chain. The pair, who first met at a dairy trading company, decided to create a business that would service smaller manufacturers – those that didn’t have the storage capacity or the funds to take large deliveries, such as smaller bakery products and ice cream makers.
“If they can take a pallet of product, they are a potential customer of ours,” Woodhouse says.
He attributes the company’s fast growth to its flexibility and service levels.

make life easy for our customers and stakeholders, and we’ve stuck to that motto.
“We knew that small to medium-sized food manufacturers usually order dairy ingredients for delivery the next day. What we found was that some multinationals
and even distributors were slow to move to accommodate these customers.”
He says company culture also plays its part. “We focus on our people like most successful companies, and on our internal culture, on making sure Maxum is a fun place to be.” ✷
