OW WE REALLY DIDN’T WANT
to set the bar too high and were really open to what the iteria for Best Workplace
could be but we had two candi- dates that were so exceptional we couldn’t choose between them.
Sure there are certain concrete exam- ples to submit, such as staff facilities and a safe working environment but company owners were given license to even be a bit more esoteric.
Smart Repair has a total staff of 43, The company runs five sites and offers colli- sion, hail, auto electrical and ADAS ser- vices.
Repairhub in Banyo, Queensland em- ploys 275 staff, with 50 per cent working on the floor along with 21 apprentices, they have 14 sites and are opening more.
Where Smart Repair puts through 30 cars a week, Repair Hub turns around 890. You might expect IAG-backed Re- pairhub to be in a position to offer staff many benefits, but they don’t have to.
Smart Repair utilises online education, training and lifestyle apps to support its staff. Perkbox is a staff recognition and rewards program that offers discounts and free items and even allows members to give each other shout outs.
On the personal health side it utilises an app called Lifeworks, which is a wellbeing platform for staff and family free of charge. It offers all manner of useful tools, such as;

    mental and physical health assessments, plus plenty of assistance on financial plan- ning, weight management, diet, physical work-outs and other healthy habit tips.
Staff also get access to some of Smart Repair’s special company vehicles to take away on holidays or for long weekends with their partners. How would you like to drive off in a new Mach 1 mustang, one of only 700 brought to Australia?
If you are lucky and work hard you could drive it to one of their residential properties all along the east coast for a holiday. And there’s heaps more that we don’t have space for.
Repairhub, with its large workforce, relies more on its in-house intellectual property to train and assist its staff .
Beside the relationship with PPG, used to refine technical skills and im-
prove technical competence, the compa- ny also promotes mentoring within its state leadership network. Bespoke train- ing is initiated by its People & Culture Team for employee performance, en- gagement and workplace safety.
Their legendary weekly lunches sup- port local restaurants. The network of- fers three weeks paternity leave and great maternity leave. There’s an anony- mous employee engagement survey with 80% of employees highly engaged. There’s a range of discounts from insur- ance, accomodation, personal loans and more. There’s also a laser focus on safety and a raft of other employee-focused ini- tiatives that we don’t have space to list.
So well done to both businesses who have both won the inaugural Best Work- place award
